the reason that I have the number and no name is because my husbands ex wife was giving out a false SSN on some court documents, and I would like to contact the person that the number belongs to so the he/she may fix his/her record. I'm trying to do a good thing

  1. Your question came to the genealogy area.

You can use the ssdi (on rootsweb.com) to connect to a deceased person.  If you are not using the information for researching your family, you really have no reason to be using it.

ahhh.  sorry, we sometimes make wrong assumptions with limited info.

Yes.. discuss with local law enforcement to get it brought to attention of social security.

  2. You should call the police or the Social Security office. This isn't something for you to handle on your own. That person needs to be notified by the authorities so they can tell him or her what to do next.

  3. I would actually contact the FBI and find out what to do about it. It is a federal offense to use another persons SSN (whether they are dead or alive). They will tell you what you need to do, or they will take the report and inform the person themselves, you don't need to know who it belongs to. The person just needs to know that somebody is using theirs.

  4. call the police, tell them your looking for someone who's identity you can steal, then they'll hook you up with that information

  5. Go to www.secure.bestpeoplesearch.com and put in the number. This site will send the verification to you via email. It's free. This site has many other ways to search, but they charge for it. You can also go to rootsweb.com if you're trying to find someone and that is free.

    Good luck!
