Question:

I have the opportunity to get a nikon d1x?

I can get it for under 400 bucks, but it's quite old ( 2001) has 6 megapixels, and I'm not sure If I should buy it, ohh it's the camera only too, no lenses, but it retailed new at 5000 or so bucks. do you think its a good deal?.

sorry if you saw this question posted under visual arts-- it's important I get some opinions quickly

  1. You can actually get it for less than $1000 - brand new.  But unlike those film cameras that were really good, old digitals don't stay that way as we progressed. The battery for that is heavy and you would only get around 250 shots per charged. For around that price ($450 on sale) you can get a new Nikon 40 with a lens with it. Remember when a dvd player used to cost more than a thousand... something to think about.


  2. It was the Pro camera in 2001, so it is sturdy and has very good handling. Here is a review for that camera, and it sells for $500 at Amazon:

    I think the older digital cameras, the images on ISO 800 and above tend to be noisy. That is the disadvantage of the older models. The newer cameras, like the D40, D80 and D60 has better low light image capability. If you are not going to take a lot of high ISO pictures, then you are going to like the D1x, otherwise, get a non pro D40, D60 or D80.
