spray hairspray, back comb than spray hairspray again.  If not thin hair out. Buy thinning shears you can do yourself or go to salon.

use plenty of volumnizing mousse  at your roots with a  volumn spray if you have it then spray the peice  of hair you are going to backcomb with hairpray  before or after  ot both depending on how you find  it holds in your hair.. i usually  just spray it all over afterwards. and it will hold..

Are you backcoming for dreadlocks? (Your question is somewhat vague.) If you are going for dreads you need to use a non-residue-leaving shampoo, available from knotty boy, but avoid their other products. You can also find it in other brands but I don't have any names, so... But yeah. No conditioner and use the special shampoo for a week or two and then try again. It should stay better. It'll come down a little of course, but it's a process. Takes time...
