I have a '96 Saturn SW1, the wagon 4 cyl 1.3 lit.

My car ran fine until I added about a half a quart of oil. To start with getting the oil in was a bit of an odd ordeal from normal. as I added it it seemed to be stopped up in the neck of the oil add area just under the cap and it drained into the engine vary slowly, about 3 shots worth at a time and took that almost 60 seconds to drain down at that. Then when I turned over the engine, I got thick white smoke pouring out of the tail pipe. I thought maybe it was a temporary thing but I let it sit for about 2 hours checked and added oil again then drove it around the block didn't seem to change. After I decided to park it for the night, I drove it to it's spot and the smoke had decreased. I am tempted to take it for a longer ride to see if it is just something that needs to burn off but don't want to burn up the engine. Any thoughts??

  1. If it really is white.it sounds like a head gasket, but I would suspect it has a slight blueish tint to it.  That would be oil and either it was overfilled or it did not drain properly to the oil pan and is seeping through you valves- the problems you had when you added it make me wonder if more of the latter is not the case.

  2. if u add too much oil that **** will blow clouds of white smoke for days

  3. Thick white smoke is water/coolant. I can't see the two being related. Double check to see if you added the oil to the correct opening. There should be no restriction in the fill tube. Look at your owners manual. It will show you every service area under the hood.

  4. I'm wondering if you put a quality motor oil in ot or something like transmission, power steering, or brake fluid in it.

  5. i think you need a new car.

  6. sounds like a blown head gasket and water is getting in your cylinders and burning thus white smoke.
