I have this annoying ticking sound in my room,everytime i go to find it or i make a sound it stops. what isit?

It Normaly happens at night, it sounds like its coming from the book shelf but when you get up close you cant pin point it then it stops when you make any sound! Any ideas?

I have experienced this same thing before and I think it's a

noise we hear when the furniture is settling like when a house

makes these same little cracking sounds.Or a ghost

You may be hearing a common condition called Tinnitus and it is more commonly heard as a ringing (like a small bell). However it can also sound like a steady thumping or tapping. Some people are more sensitive to the sound than others and it can be brought about by many various factors. This is a death watch beetle. Look around on line and see if you can find a recording of one. I think you will recognize the speed and timber of the death watch beetle clicks. You've grown up with crickets which make a distinct and much different sound that I think you'd know when you heard it. Get one of those white noise radios and forget it. Sweet dreams!

Do you have a heating system that sends warm air through registers in your room? It could be something in the vent. Could it be mice in the walls? They tend to stop chewing if you start making noise.
