  1. There is a great book out called 'Spotless' by Shannon Lush (Australian), plus several others.  You can get the book at most good book stores (as they say).

    She has a website too - www.shannonlush.com.

She always has great tips & tricks for cleaning up EVERYTHING, including furniture.  Her tips are usually not based around chemicals, etc., & use things that you can find in the supermarket.

    Give it a try.

  2. Try using Colin.

Or go to a stationary shop and ask for whitener diluting fluid.

It is a transperrant liquid (toluene or something like that). Last time I bought it, it was only Rs. 6.

Be careful it is very strong and disolved many things.

Check on the underside or corner of the table whether the varnish is getting disolved.

Note: Don't inhale the substance, it is poisonous!

  3. If you are concerned about the value of the old dresser and not just the looks contact an antique dealer because sometimes refinishing an old piece of furniture can bring down the value even if it is makeing it look in better condition. but if you are not concerned about the value still an antique dealer could probably either tell you how to refinish it properly or point you to some one who can tell you if they don't know

  4. i think u need 2 pe paint it...in that shiny stuff....but first take some sandpaper and sand the whole dresser so the shiny stufflooks even, apply a couple of layers

  5. I'm thinking that you're tell us the table top and dresser top are wood,if this is so you can sand tops down to bare wood and use polyurethane on surface. Two or three coats will make it look like new.
