Question:

I have this lump in my mouth (on my lip) about the size of a fingernail...

It isn't painful, but it's been there for almost a month now. I can move it around with my tongue but it generally stays in the same location. Occasionally, I will bite it because it sometimes gets in the way of chewing. It seems to have like a transparent color on top but a dark grayish color underneath. I was never really concerned about it before because I assumed I only bit my lip and it would go away within a few days.

I don't know if this is relevant or not but I've also had throat pain/discomfort. It wasn't like your average sore throat you seem to get before a cold, so I don't know exactly how to explain it. I was always thirsty no matter how much liquids I would drink. And the pain/discomfort would intensify when I swallowed. Right now, the discomfort has subsided and I felt maybe all of this was due to dehydration.

I don't know. My throat may not have anything to do with it but I just thought I put that out there. Does the lump sound like anything I should be concerned about? Just something normal or maybe the onset of something?

I'm asking on here first because I think I tend to be much of a hypochondriac. Everytime I go to the doctor's my symptoms seem to be dismissed as nothing. Which maybe they are. I don't know if this is the case here or not...

  1. My god I hope this isnt typical of the advise given . There is nothing about the discription that would lead me to believe this "lump" is a cold sore !! More likely to be a small harmless cyst or similar . However self diagniosis is never good in the long term so go see your dentist as he/she is the only one who can really identify the "lump" & put your mind at rest .
