I have this question from my math class and here it is... why does the leave change no work..?

example:

2-8=

you leave positive two

2

change minus to add

+

and change to negative 8

-8

2+{-8)=

why dose it not work? {not in that specific problem but in other plz plz plz answer and or email me at [e-mail]

It does work. The expressions " 2 - 8 " and " 2 + ( -8) " are mathematically equivalent.

It's the same question either way, since the answer's -6 in both equations.
