  1. bettas may be ok in a glass jar or partially set up aquarium...but they deserve just as god a place as all other fish. 2.5 gal low current filter, airator, heater and thermostat. the like live soft leafed plants.

if you lived in a flower vase, you would be in active too.  whoever said bettas are not active obviously wasn't taking good care of them, thats a myth.

it might be better if you sold them or gave them away if you don't want to upgrade.

  2. Heaters don't just warm the water, they also keep the temperature from fluctuating too much, which is bad for fish.  So yes, bettas do need heaters, just like any tropical fish.

A good home for a betta is a 2.5 gallon or bigger tank with a heater and some plants/driftwood for decoration--bettas like to have things to hide behind and swim around.  A filter isn't really necessary on tanks smaller than 4-5 gallons unless you intend to cycle the tank, which is difficult to do with small tanks.

  3. Okay, I am glad to hear that you have some gorgeous bettas. To be honest with you and everyone else, bettas are not lazy! Bettas are targets of "laziness" when they are put into an environment such as a 1/2 gal tank and below. Flower vases are meant for flowers, not living beings. This is my belief and I will always stick to it. I suggest you get a 14-15 gal tank. I hope that there are no signs of aggression with your fish because the rule is 2 females for every male you have. If anything pops up, you may want to consider another female instead of a male. Bettas tanks should always be 78-82 degrees. If you think your house is suitable then you should get a thermometer for the tank. Live plants or fake do great with bettas. The one problem is that live plants create algae. Algae and smaller tanks don't do well together! Talk about constant cleaning. My personal advice is to get some natural colored rocks, I just think they are prettier in the tank. Colored works too. Bettas love to have hiding places. Get them a hollow rock, log, etc. If you get a plant, they like them to be big and full.

Good luck to you and your bettas! :)

    ----Edit----

I guarantee that if you put your bettas in a 14-15 gal+ tank, they will always be zipping around in there! I have two gorgeous bettas in a 15gal right now and they hardly ever rest. I saved them from the typical pet store cup recently. One is my male, Sake. The other is my female, Suki. Lol I know, similar names. I plan on getting my second female soon, to join the tank. I know you don't want a tank, but the best I can tell you is that your fish will have much better lives in there and it's actually easier to keep than a small tank. Yes, it is true, bigger tanks are easier to keep than smaller tanks. They are pretty easy to clean and they get dirty way slower.

  4. Betta's are not really active fish.

  5. Bettas are more of a pretty to look at fish than an active fish...I've always heard they're best in what you have them in now.

  6. read this link on BETTA trivia.

lots of people use flower vases BUT only if washed well to remove chemicals.. and no plants... make sure you have a cover or lid to stop the fish from jumping out.
