I have a newly constructed home and there are these tiny bugs that jump when I try to smash them with my fingertip. Some are brownish, some are redish, and some are blackish in color. They're the size of a pin tip and they're mainly in my kitchen. My home is brand new and amount of bugs that I have is ridiculous. Please help me figure out what these tiny bugs are and also how I can eliminate some of the pest. I live in the central Alabama region.

  1. sounds like fleas. do u have an animal, or did the people before you have an animal?

  2. They might be fleas.

  3. Sounds like maybe a 'sand flea'.  A relative of the flea you normally hear about living on pets/animals.  You don't necessarily have to have pets to get this critter... hehehe.

Any of the usual 'flea' treatments will work on this bug too... traps, poisons, etc.  You can find them wherever pet supplies are sold, or pesticides.

Another possibility is the 'fruit fly', or gnat, though, these bugs usualy 'fly' instead of 'leap'.

I'd recommend the ORTHO Home Defense product, as a routine maintenance application.  You spray it around the perimeter of your home foundation, and wall/floor corners to make a 'barrier' to keep insects out.  I use this product in our home with pets, and have had no problems with it.

Raid fumigators or 'bug bombs' work really well on a variety of insects to help remove an infestation.  I'd use the Raid bug bomb, in the kitchen and any adjoining rooms first, then follow up with the Ortho Home Defense.  Just follow the directions on the respective containers.

    Good Luck

  4. fleas....

  5. probably springtails

  6. Probably Fleas.

    Maybe Ticks.

Maybe, their a type of small beetle bug.

    Good luck. (:

  7. Sounds like fleas.

  8. There are a number of very small bugs that jump.  Without a better description its hard to guess.  Fleas are usually much larger and do not usually occur in large numbers. Springtails, Silverfish, Bristletails, Zoraptersns and Thurps.  It is also possible that they are immature insects from other orders.  I also jump when someone tries to kill me.

It is likely they occurred naturally in the area before the house was built.  It is possible they have found a food source in your new home.  The easiest way with tiny insects is to vacuum them up. Attrition should solve your problem.
