  1. In certain unis they want certain topics. Here is one site:

    http://www.ucreative.ac.uk/index.cfm?art...

BA (Hons) Degree in Architecture (Part 1)

In addition to the minimum requirements for BA (Hons) Degrees, applicants for the above course must have:

Five GCSE passes at Grade C or above, including English or Key Skills Communications Level 2, and a mix of science/maths and humanities/arts subjects.

    and

Normally 260 points from two or more GCE/VCE A-level subjects are required. We prefer a mix of science/maths and humanities/arts subjects; at least one subject in which assessment is essay-based is desired. General Studies A-level may be included as part of the standard offer. AS levels and key skills qualifications may count towards the total points. Evidence of a design/art portfolio strongly desired.

I would advise you to take art as an alevel, also 1 science/maths subject...preferably maths as this will help

  2. Design

    Product Design

    Resistant materials

    Art & Design

If your college does any of these, take them.

I did product design and some people on my course went to uni to do arcitecture. In the A level course they built a scale model of a building :) So if you can do something like this, you can incorporate architecture into it and then go onto uni to take it.

However, it depends on the uni you choose which subjects you have to do. Its worth researching it beforehand. Some unis might want maths.

  3. Hello

I’ll just add a few suggestions to other answers.

To check out the subject options that meet entry requirements for architecture courses at university, have a look at the UCAS website: http://ucas.com/students/coursesearch/.   Select Architecture, either as a single subject or as a combined option, to bring up the list of available courses.  Then click on any university of interest for more details, including entry requirements.  These will often be listed under general entry requirements, but sometimes there will be course specific requirements.  GCSE subjects should include maths, English language and a separate or a double award science: Maths, physics and art are useful subjects at A level although many other subjects are acceptable.  If you still have queries, you could discuss these with your school careers adviser or contact a relevant university admissions officer for clarification.

You might also find the Connexions website useful for general information about a career in architecture: see http://www.connexions-direct.com/jobs4u/...  Add ‘Architecture’ to the search box for detailed information, including roles and responsibilities, entry requirements and working conditions.  If you use the ‘further details’ link, you’ll find contact details for registration and professional bodies relevant for each of the four countries within the UK.  These organisations will be another source of information about entry requirements (as well as  opportunities for work experience in your area if this is relevant for sixth form).

Incidentally, the Connexions site also has information on work experience at http://www.connexions-direct.com/itsyour...

Remember to review your plans regularly in case you change your mind, or entry requirements vary.  Allow time for your research as you may see other links worth following up.  I hope this will be useful for your subject choices and wish you well in your future study and career!

  4. I would advise art and one technology type subject (my school did product design A-level), alongside maths (or maybe physics) and any other well respected A-level.
