I have to extend a 32mm waste pipe (Plastic) that is coverd in paint what is the best way to remove paint.?

How can I remove the paint so the solvent cement will work????

  1. Hi, I have allways found a smooth file will remove the paint and also give you grip for your solvent. There also many push fit fittings now, but be aware buy the more expensive ones if you are going along this route.

  3. if you have to extend it you might as well replace it as a single piece of pipe doesent leek if you put a joint in theres always a chance its always best to have the fewest number of joints as possible

  4. Scrape it off gently with a stanley blade.

  5. acetone,   a liquid solvent found in your hardware store

  6. Use sandpaper to shift the paint, you need to roughen the pipe surface anyway as a "key" for the solvent glue. ok

  7. Yep I'd go with a Stanley knife blade,sand paper, paint scraper,broken piece of glass anything just to get as much of the paint off as you can. You will find if a small amount of paint is left on the pipe the solvent will not only weld/melt the plastic but also the paint. Thus giving a good water tight joint
