I was wondering if you can use laughing gas during the immunizations. If so then I am totally going to use them during them. Cause i really want to get them, but I am really really scared.

  1. You do a dozen things a day that  could hurt you far worse than a shot.

And no, they don't give laughing gas for that.

I had a shot phobia for years. Until I finally figured out that what I was really afraid of was not the pain, it was of being held down, and they had to hold me down, because as big as I was at that age, I would have run out of the room.

So I decided to take things into more of my control. I asked the doctor to tell me when he was going to inject me.  I absolutely was scared, but I held my ground.  No screaming, no running.  Now I can even watch without flinching.

Try to figure out what you are really afraid of, because believe me, its not the pain from a couple of pinpricks, a scraped knee hurts far worse and far longer.

See if you need to take some control in your situation.  Break down your fear into understandable bits that you have control over.

It can be done and you will feel so much better knowing you won't embarrass yourself with being so chicken.

  2. I doubt that the Dr will give you laughing gas for a few shots.  Just suck it up, most only hurt for the actual injection.  Other will be sore around the site of injection for a few days after it.

Just think, does the slight pain of getting the injections outweigh getting something else if you don't have them.

  3. it's just a shot. seriously. it's not that bad.

And in answer to your question, no.

  4. What i do, that works the best, is this:

While your getting the shot listen to some really loud, fast music on your iPod/mp3 player... I do that when i get shots and last time the person had to tap me on the shoulder to tell me i had gotten it.

In my opinion, thats the best way...

  5. Don't worry shots aren't that bad, but i understand you are scared so try singing a song in your head or have someone come in with you and talk to you about something else while you get the shot.

Hope this helps and good luck!

  6. Tell the doctor or nurse that you are nervous.  They will do it in a way that won't hurt.

  7. One thing you could do is think really hard about something else while you get the shot.  And close your eyes - that helps.

  8. I was reading a post simiar to ur situation and the person said that he was getting a shot and they gave him laughing gas. He said he shuts his eyes and doesn't even feel the needle.

  9. it's just a alittle poke... everyone gets shots, just don't look

  10. Ashtyn-

After you get your shots, you will look back and laugh at why you were scared.  Other than the quick stick of the needle into the fleshy upper part of your arm's deltoid muscle, it's a "big nothing."  NO ONE ever gets any laughing gas or pain killers for routine immunizations.  I have gotten many shots, and still get some boosters from time-to-time, especially when I travel to other countries.  Relax and go get your shots.  It's also a good idea to get an annual flu shot every October, as I do.

  11. They're not going to give you anything like that for a few shots.  It only takes a few seconds to get a shot, and its not worth it to risk the side effects of drugs just for something that is really a minimul amount of pain.

  12. Some shots are minor. I got the cervical cancer shots, I was freaking scared, but I was fine after. You don't need laughing gas, hun.
