I have to get both of my brake rotors replaced- and the mechanic quoted me $800. Is that reasonable?

  1. Sounds pricey, but it might be right.

  2. oh my goodness no.  call your local parts store, you will find that roters are like $20-50 a piece. or go in and talk to them, if you go in person odds are they know someone, or know where to get it done cheaper.

  3. The shop likely wants to replace the front wheel bearings also, If so that would be about correct with a full front brake job, but unless you really need the bearings too, it can be done w/o replacing the bearings. (the rotors are a "captured" design, meaning the rotor sits behind the hub).

  4. Car Parts Wholesale has them for about $40 each.  Sounds to me like he is charging you at leas 10 times the cost of the parts.  I would find a different mechanic.

  5. No that is not reasonable I just had mine done and the labor was 50 dollars I bought my own Rotors if you know some one that can follow directions i've attached two videos that will show them step by step how to do it. The first one is showing how to remove the tire and the second one is how to remove the rotors and install new ones hope this helps. O and by the way I live in texas so things are a lot cheaper here then in other states.

  6. Did he even give you a kiss before he???????????????????????

  7. $800? Ha ha ha ha ha!

    Tell him to **** off.

Are you in Australia? Go to your nearest Repco and get some DBA longlife rotors and some Bedix Ultimate pads for your car, then take it to a garage, not a car dealership, and get them to fit the parts.

Shouldn't cost you more than two hours labour at the most. If the discs are of the type that the wheel holds on, rather than bolting to the back of the hub, then a rotor and pad change should take no longer than 45 minutes.

Including parts, this should cost you no more than $500, and the parts you have fitted are top quality (far better than factory), will give better performance than stock, and should last for years.

  8. NO WAY. That's too much. The rotors shouldn't cost more $50 ea, and the labor for a couple of hours say $100. Now he may be putting new pads on, that would be the smart thing to do, say another $75 tops. Still doesn't add up to $800. Go somewhere else !!

  9. No, not even the dealer will charge that much. each rotor cost around 60-80 dollars. a new set of brake pads 80-100 dollars. labor to just replace parts 1.5hr. lets say the dealer is 100 dollars an hour.

    so

    labor  150.00 dollars

    parts  260.00 dollars

total before tax and shop supplies

            410.00

  10. Go somewhere else, rotors shouldn't cost more than a couple hundred dollars. It's a standard procedure that all cars eventually need done, and it doesn't cost 800 to do it.

  11. Outrageous.

  12. No.  I got mine done for $400. Go somewhere else.

  13. Seems kind of high considering it's less than $200 to do it your self.  I know not everyone can do that but I would still shop around.

  14. Seems like alot, I'd check elsewhere.
