  1. Yes...if it says so on the lease....and the notice has to be on the 1st of the month...not the 2nd or the 5th or whatever time they say your rent is late. Failure to do so will mean you paying them for the 2 mths after your lease is up, whether you stay in the apartment or not.

A lease, as with a credit card, you gotta read the fine print or they are gonna getcha. Even if nobody brought to your attention that you need to give them 2(or 1) mths notice, your signature is on the contract.

  2. If it is in the lease you MUST give 2 months notice even though it is really inconvenient. If you do not give 2 months notice they may make you pay an additional months rent.

  3. DO NOT WITH HOLD ANY OF YOUR RENT PAYMENTS!!! After 5 short days of your late rental payment, by law, you can be evicted and that will go on your credit report forever haunting you. Read through the contract you signed with them. If it doesn't specifically state you must give them a 2 month notice, then the law states (depending on what state you live in) you only have to give them 30 days. Check with the renter's laws for your state just to be 100% sure.

  4. that sounds like something that would have been in the contract.

  5. Well, that may be what they WANT, but in reality no one usually arranges their departure that far in advance. You really ought to be willing to give them one month, though. If they're holding a security deposit and you're concerned they won't return it if you don't follow such a restrictive rule, then withhold rent payments prior to your departure so they have nothing to hold back.
