I have to improve a lot to maintain the existing form, says India’s top shuttler Saina Nehwal
India’s top shuttler Saina Nehwal, who has recently won Women’s Singles title at Swiss Open GP Gold, said that she needs to work hard and improve a lot in order to maintain her current form.
The World Number Five Nehwal knows well that her biggest hurdle in the major tournaments will be Chinese shuttlers.
She lost many times to Chinese opponents in the last one year but has shown a steady determination and won the Swiss Open title by beating two Chinese shuttlers in her way to glory.
She defeated Liu Xin and Wang Shixian to prove that she is back on track. With this victory, she also showed that she has got rid of her injuries as well.
However, Nehwal knows that she needs to play against the Chinese shuttler as much as possible.
The Indian is also well aware that there are many top class Chinese players who will be in her way to glory in the upcoming tournaments including London Olympics.
She said, "I have to play a lot (against the Chinese). Of course, now I have defeated both of them very easily so the confidence will be with me during the tournaments. But I have to maintain my fitness and I have to still improve a lot of things and carry
this (form) up to the Olympics."
Chinese players are more in numbers and Nehwal knows that to beat all of them with different styles of play will not be an easy task.
She said, "There are about six, seven of them. So it's tough (for me). They have many players of different varieties. So I need to work on different kind of strokes and different kind of game every day.”
Nehwal, who is working hard in training sessions at the moment, will be in action again in India Open Super Series 2012, which will kick off in the last week of April.
In the previous edition of India Open, Nehwal could not live up to expectations and lost her first-round match.
However, this time she is in perfect form and is expected to cheer her home fans by delivering better performance.
