  1. It all depends on what level you need to work up to.  If it's strictly a beginners band, I'd say you could definitely learn to a certain extent in that time.  It's all about spending much of your time practicing, serious practicing. Best of luck to you!

  2. HI Long Dog.... short answer here...   If your band instructor has this much confidence in your ability to play the clarinet,  Sure you CAN do it.   Who would know better than the person that knows your music ability and sees how really hard you can work.   You really need to trust his decision to ask you to play a new instrument and do the best you can to be ready.   I think  it would be a great honor to know that he thinks that much of you.   Congrats!!!   Enjoy the Clarinet!!!

  3. What instruments do you play now, and how well. If you have never played a wind instrument before, it will be difficult. If you are proficient in any other wind instrument, it may be trivial.

If the guitar is the only instrument that you currently play, with good instruction and a lot of practice (6-10 hours per day) you should be ready for basic play, but probably not solos.

  4. Depends on what you mean by "learn".  You might be able to play basics like scales, and that might be good enough.  But really mastering an instrument is a long process and will take more than a decade.

  5. it is a pretty simple instrument to learn the basics.

but to get a beautiful tone may take years.

you can't just say, i'm going to be able to play it by [insert date here]

it's something that progresses over time with much practice.

you won't sound like a super professional or anything, but if you keep practicing, you will atleast know how to play.

i've been playing for only 6 years, and i'm still not at the level i wish i could be.

just remember to practice alot. and maybe even try to take private lessons.

    goodluck.

  6. this all depends on what level of playing you want, but clarinet is a fairly simple instrument. i would strongly recommend taking private lessons to learn the correct embrouchure and technical aspects of playing clarinet so you dont mess your self up for the future. if you practice diligently and outside of class i think you'll be fine.

  7. It really depends on how you practice and how much you practice.

Practice diligently. Practice everyday outside of band. If something doesn't sound right, don't assume that it is right. Go back and fix the error.

If you can, get private lessons. It will help you SO much!

  8. hey,

I learnt the clarinet in about a week! once you get the hang of how to place your mouth and your breathing its relativley easy. if you can read music and have a knack for remembering things you should be fine!

  9. You can do it, but you have to put in the time.

It takes time to get a good tone.

The notes you'll learn fast enough.
