  1. Anywhere heat is used, look for opportunities for heat recovery as a preheat or heat recovery for some other process. Can insulation be added to reduce heat loss and reduce the energy required to maintain process heat requirements?

More efficient motors used for conveyors, pumping, etc. Variable speed drives used if mechanical restrictions are currently used to regulate things (particularly airflow). Many times process control feedback regulating the VSD operation can result in better product quality.

Auxiliary systems such as lighting, upgrade to more efficient fluorescent or HPS to reduce installed wattage required to meet necessary illumination levels. Photocells on exterior lighting (you'd be amazed how many plants, even in this day and age have the outside lights on during the day).

Depends on the process, but a demand mangement system (montoring all equipment) which prevents certain high load equipment from all coming on at the same time (IE, not all heaters can come on at the same time, stage different elements) can reduce demand charges from the electric utility, even if they don't save a lot of energy use.

    Good luck!
