  1. I would catch and freeze insects (plastic bag, jar) then pin them to some cardboard and put it in. you could also put sticks or some habitat in, but I wouldnt count it as an object unless it had an insect crawling on it. perhaps a bug net?

  2. I have never understood the rationality behind building a prop box. What purpose does it serve? If you want to capture a glimpse of insect life, go outside and turn over some rocks.

  3. dead insects?

  4. I wouldn't actually use real bugs. You could buy fake bugs and glue in some twigs or maybe toy back rounds.

  5. Books and articles on insects

Containers for bugs and collections such as 35mm film canisters, to hold small insects

Insect collecting tools such as tweezers and forceps

Supplies to make Bug Houses/habitats (soil, sticks, leaves, aquarium)

    Ant Farm/Ants

    Magnifiers

    Microscopes

    Wasp/Bee Nests

    Butterfly net

A box containing insect coloring pages, crafts, word search,

Puzzles, games, and recipes to make  snacks that look like bugs ---this is all learning related in a variety of ways.....

  6. I don't understand why people say they wouldn't use real bugs.  What's the point of fake bugs?  You can't see them eat.  You can't see them move.  You can't see them interact with each other.

If you're looking to spend ANY money, go get a small plastic container at a fish store or a pet store.  Put some bugs in it.  Then find out what those particular bugs need to survive.  (Often, it's just leaves and water).

A set of fake bugs is ok for a matching activity.  But FEW real bugs are made of plastic and say "Made in China" on the bottom.  Plus, with lead in the paints these days, the real bugs will be less deadly. :)

  7. maybe just some nature items such as rocks and leafs.

  8. Fill a 1 liter soda bottle half full of sand or coarse salt. Drop in some plastic bugs. Cover and shake it to hide the bugs. The kids an use the magnifying glasses to search for the bugs as they shake and turn the bottle. See if a parent has some lab coats to donate. Now that Halloween is about over see if you can get some wings on sale. If not, make some along with some antenna.

  9. I like QtPa2t's answer. You should make some bugs and insects out of clay or draw them, and put them in.
