  1. I have never heard of anyone getting popped for doing this, but, it is a dealership and they probably will file the paperwork so the state knows what you owe.  I'd pay up.

  2. Pay the taxes,,Its not worth getting into trouble with the law....

  3. In mIchigan the seller puts the sales price on the back of the title, so it is there when you go to transfer the title for the car.

  4. I'm pretty sure you have to provide a bill of sale in order to get your tags....if you didn't, what would stop everyone from saying they only spent a dollar on their new Mercedes?

  5. They have the paper work sorry. If it were a private sale then as long as the sells agrees then your good to go. Not that I would know that or would have done anything like that because its wrong!

  6. Yes, they either check your paperwork or use their own valuation.  They will not take an oral statement from you as to the value of the vehicle.

  7. They have a floor that they will let you pay.  Trust me, you are not the first scum to try to not pay their share of taxes.

So you can claim that you paid your buddy $50 for the bike, but they will still charge you the same rate as if it was $1000.

Also, they know how much an item goes for.  You better have a salvage title if it is a $6000 bike and you want to say you paid $200 for it.

Wesley Snipes may be able to give you some advice.  Get a job, pay your taxes, it's only right.

  8. They'll want to see a bill of sale.  And even if you somehow fake that, they'd recognize that the amount you are claiming was less than fair market value - many states would then charge the tax on the FMV - you aren't the first person to come up with that idea for fraud, and the states are very much aware of it.

  9. I'm sure they will want to see the bill of sale

  10.   In Texas  they charge the value in the book.. I paid 500.00 for this car,,,they said its worth 2400.00,they taxed that number..
