  1. i would say  do what the person said that answered  your question first but yeah she is right. it goes away in time. i would avoid running in bare feet and running on the sidewalk. run on the street because its softer for your feet than sidewalk and running on soft surfaces put less pressure on your shins. trust me it helps because im in cross country and track and im   the fastest freshman at my school for long distance.

  2. shin splints are just like any other injury. WITH TIME, they heal.

now, i know how bad you're trying to letter in track, this happened with me my freshman year of xc. the best advice i can say is stretch and ice. after practice everyday, go home and ice all over your lower leg, then stretch. then go back to icing.

try calf raises as well on stairs. since it's almost may, i'm sure your track season will be over pretty soon. your shin splints won't just go away, they heal with time. so as soon as your season is over, make sure you take a 1-2 week break.

for your 2 mile, the best i can say is that you will probably be running on a rubber track, so you won't feel your shin splints very much. be sure to stretch your calves really good. before and AFTER your race.

just try and wait it out. for now, and the rest of your season, run on trails, soft ground. stay away from concrete!!! at all costs, they only make them hurt worse because of the impact.

good luck, I hope this helps! feel better!
