I have to supply my own safety boots and work clothes to wear but i am paye, can i claim these costs back

can i claim the costs i have to spend on clothes/boots and gloves etc for my job,back from my tax or from somewhere else if i was self employed i would be able to claim for these but unfortunately are not does any one know the answers because it all adds up and i have to wash them all at my cost thanks

  1. For most trades there is a fixed rate deduction. Go to www.hmrc.gov.uk and search for 'fixed rate deductions'. There is a list of all the main trades and the amount which is allowable. Just ring your tax office and ask them to include the allownace in your code number.
