What should I teach? The lesson will be observed by the head of the school and will be an hour long. I can teach anything I choose!

  1. you are being assessed not only on your teaching skills, but also your skills to plan a lesson.

try and think of things to do yourself - it will be more satisfying when they enjoy themselves, and more importantly learn something new cos of you!

EDIT giving me a thumbs down wont help you!

  2. Something that shows off your best talents, that the children are interested in. I would choose either literacy or maths (possibly combine the 2 through a big book) with lots of opportunities for  hands on practical learning. If you're unsure of what to teach have a look at the Hamilton site(£12 a year to join but worth it) which give planning for different year groups and particular terms. You can  also look up  particular storybooks and find a range of activities for them. Is there an interactive whiteboard? ICT is often a good way to practically involve the children (which they love) & can help with differentiation. Above all, resource yourself well (will you have any teacher's aides) and be prepared for the unexpected! Good luck!!!!
