I am a college student seeking certification in remedial math. Next week (week 2 of the semester so we haven't learned anything yet) I have to teach a lesson to my peers about a common math problem students have and how to remedy the situation.

Any recommendations?

  1. Common math errors include copying the problem wrong, wrong computation (not memorizing facts correctly), or skipping operational steps.  You could pick one of these.  The best way to teach teachers is to actually walk-them through the wrong and corect procedures, as if they were students.  It is better to have college students do it than it is to have them just hear you tell them what to do.

  2. Teach them division by this system

    Does-Divide

    McDonalds- Mulitply

    Serve- subtract

    Cheese- check

    Burgers- Bring down

    Daily- Divide

    Works for my sixth graders.
