  1. How about getting on a overnight bus?

It is much cheaper than Shinkansen.

You can buy a ticket at in front of the Sakurabashi gate (West-south) of Osaka station.

I'm not sure if you can buy it speaking in English.

It will be a help if you write down your desteny, time and date, etc in advance even in English.

Shinkansen (bullet train) have driven out overnight train in Japan.

There are a few overnight train in Japan even today, but they are costs as much as Shinkansen.

If you prefer to get on train, you can buy "Seishun 18 kippu" (Happy-youth-18-old-ticket) to get on any local train during a day cheaper now, in this summer vacation times.

I don't recommend it because it takes about 10 hours one way, but by any chance you might curious about it.

    Have a nice trip!

  2. The night bus is the cheapest way, aside from the seishun ticket method mentioned above. The night train would cost more than the Shinkansen. There is a train that goes all the way from Osaka to Sapporo every night-but it's just not economical to use it for Osaka to Tokyo. Even all the way to Sapporo would likely cost more than the average plane ticket. The people who use it tend to be either those afraid of flying, or railway buffs-hence the JR can charge a premium.

  3. an overnight bus is 3000 yen from Tokyo to Osaka.

  4. No such thing as a cheap train in Japan.
