I have to work harder in training sessions to cope up with top contenders, says Lee Chong Wei
The World Number One, Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia is fully aware of the fact that he needs to work extra hard in training session to cope up with the major contenders from all over the world, particularly from China.
The 29-year-old Chong Wei is in killing form as he has reached at the podium berth in all tournaments he participated in the present year, which proves his incredible hard work and dedication in the training sessions.
The top seed Malaysian has recently suffered with two unexpected defeats from China’s young shuttler, Chen Long. Losing to a lower ranked shuttler for two consecutive occasions in one month is an alarming sign for the World Number One as the competition
is getting tougher.
The Chinese shuttlers, including Lin Dan and Chen Long, will be the major contenders for Chong Wei. The wonderful performance of Long in the recent tournaments has pushed him in the row of the best contenders for winning Men’s Singles title at the 2012 London
Olympics.
Chong Wei knows his growing age and is also well aware that it is his last chance to win the gold medal at Olympic Games. He expressed that he needs more time to recover from fatigue as compared to young shuttlers like Long. However, the top shuttler knows
very well of how to deal with such situation.
He said, "My recovery rate is not as good as a younger player like Chen Long and I have to train harder and prepare longer for main tournaments. I will push hard in the next few tournaments to gain more Olympic qualifying points before cutting down on tournaments."
He further added, "Chen Long relies on his physical strength and it becomes difficult if my preparation is enough but I have learnt a lot from my two defeats to him. It is not all about Lin Dan but I must also be prepared for Chen Long."
Chong Wei’s main target is to play flawless badminton to secure the top seeding in the Olympic Games. In order to collect enough ranking points, he has decided to participate in all upcoming international events before the year ends.
