I have to write a letter to my school petitioning to be reinstated...suggestions?

I am currently studying for my masters through an on-line course. I had a couple of rough semesters in a row and my GPA was severely affected. It was lower than the minimum requirement and therefore I was dismissed from the program. However, they said I could write a letter petitioning to be reinstated.

I'm not sure how to write this. I know I want to incorporate the fact that I have decided to take on campus classes instead of on-line courses to force myself to focus more, also I am taking on a part time position as opposed to a full time work position in order to have more time to focus on school....

I just don't really know how to go about writing this letter so it can sound powerful and truthful. I really want to refocus my entire attention onto school and just want to get that across in my letter.

Any suggestions?

  1. I think you would do it like a resume. There are  places that  help do that professional now. First  a  introduction of  who you are, How  long  lived in  the  area.  (soc sec # not  needed.)  and  what position you are seeking.   You need  list all your  dates employment,  education, accurate  dates, references.(these  in  seperate areas)  A summary of  why you like and want to pursue in  this  career.  Something like that. Good luck

  2. When I was a freshman, the first time, I messed up , I mean really messed up. My first semester was ok, but it was not my best. Long story short, by the end of the year I had been placed on academic probation and lost my eligibility for financial aid. When I finally decided to take school seriously and go back three years later, I too had to write a letter explaining why I should be awarded financial aid when I did not do anything positive with it the first time.

I think you are on the right track; you basically said the bulk of it when you posted this question. I would suggest you right an open an honest "statement" explaining the reasons you were dismissed from the program, what you have learned from your experience, and tell them how much you have grown as woman/adult/student. Explain to them how serious you are about your education and tell them about the steps you have taken to ensure you are focused and ready to move forward with great success. Do not b.s. them because they do not have to take you seriously, just be sincere and you should not have any problems.
