I have to write a poem, but I don't know what to write it about.?

How can I think of a subject? Can anyone think of a good subject?

When I have a subject to write about, poems usually flow, but it's so hard to think of a good subject!!!

I actually have to write two poems - a free verse and a villanelle. It's for year 11 english.

Write about the difficulty of writing a poem.

Or you could look at a newspaper and write a villanelle based on current headlines, changing the wording slightly to meet the form's requirements.

Whats going on in your life right now? Maybe a poem about how you are feeling about your class or your writing. What do you want to write about? Is there someone you look up to? You can always find current events and write about one that affects you. Or you can have some fun with it. Write something weird or about a fantasy person or place!

I think the best answer is not to worry so much about the subject.  Just about anything can be a good subject if you decide to care enough to write about it.

Think about the questions that are obviously in front of you:

o Writing two poems

o Anxiety about writing two poems

o Anxiety about what to write about and whether the subject is good enough.

o The room around you

o The desk that might be in front of you

Any of these things can be a good subject if you pay attention and write about it.

When you write you should try to get in toucg with the deepest most innner thoughts, whether that's a problem you had growing up w/ your parents, or feeling attracted towards someone who dosent feel the same way for you, or past relationships, or people you don't like/can't stand. Even something that inspires you like a song/band/book/character/the future etc. Try to think about what's going on in your life and try to put how you're feeling about that into words.
