Question:

I have tomato plants growing in pots on my porch the temp is supposed to go down to like 46 tonight .......?

should I worry about covering them or something or will they be ok? I can't bring them inside they are to big to move inside, thanks for any advise.

  1. Its  not  a  freezing  point  but  could  stunt  growth.  Any  way , take  some  of those plastic  sacks from stores  every  where  and   cover  top  best  Can.  also   cut  a sack  and  adjust for  sides coverage.  If  windy  may ned  wrap  with  string  or  tape  lightly.  But  need  to uncover for  sunlight  next  day. This also  works  well for  roses  and  flowers.  


  2. Unless the temperature drops below freezing they will  be fine.

  3. 46 is not a problem.  Save covering for when a frost is threatened.  If you forget to uncover them first thing in the morning, you will do more harm than good.   Burlap or sheets are safer than plastic.

  4. Put a towel or blanket around the roots...this will keep the 'heart' of the plant insulated enough to survive.

  5. years working in a greenhouse have taught me that yes, you should cover them. Burlap works great.
