  1. I would not worry about them.  They do not bite.  Plus, these are the insects that only live about 24 hours and their goal is to procreate.

  2. If you have a lot of those types of spiders, that probably means they are there to eat the tons of insects lurking in your basement.

Find out what they are after. Look in their webs and find the insects they are eating. If they are eating ants, then you can set out ant traps or sprinkle some borax along your baseboards.

Spraying along the baseboards with one of those "guaranteed killing for up to 6 months" products will work. I don't know how you feel about using chemicals in you new basement.

Remember, what is toxic for insects is also toxic for humans. It takes a large quantity to produce noticeable effects on humans, though.

In short, your spiders are looking for something, so find what they are after and destroy them both.

  3. buy the spray, (any ant killer) and spray every night before bed b/c they'll come out at night, do this for two weeks and once a week, mop the floor with chlorine bleach and other floor solution, if u have carpet then use the bleach on other surfaces and just use regular carpet cleaner... and last, buy foam insulation, (small can, maybe ($5) and apply in any cracks

  4. spraying them with bug killer, or pick them by hand an kill them

  5. you can use insecticide, but they don't hurt anything, so why would you?  I hate spiders, but really, these guys don't bug me.  If you want to though, just spray raid.  It will kill them, and the residue will continue to kill new ones.

  6. just clean the place top to bottom, all of thenooks and crannies with a good 10 gallon shp vac with about 2 qts of water in the bottom, repeat as needed, the spiders will slowly dis-appear, no fancy toxic sprays required, just make sure that you clean every sq in of everywhere, spiders can hide in the most obnoxious places, get all of the webs, eggs and cocoons in the corners and rafters too.

  7. Step on them. If you want to make this really fun then play a game. Pretend that the long legs are your stepping stones and the ground underneathe you is boiling hot lava. If you miss then you die.... =]

GOOD luck with your spider problem

  8. Put some monkey balls down there. Not the balls off of a monkey, but it's some kind of fruit, nut or seed.
