I dont know what to do about my thoughts Im only 18 but I have a constant flow of thoughts going through my mind and this makes it hard to do homework or listen to a teacher talking. Sometimes it feels like my mind has reached is limit and I have to do something distracting like play a video game or go workout, something to stop thinking. Im not going to take anything for it but I cant imagine living until 75 or w/e with a constant brainstorm... Any help?

  1. It's really normal to have a constant flow of thoughts but it sucks when you can't control the content or turn it off when you need to.

What I use to resolve this is meditation.  Meditation enables you to cut off all stimuli and completely quiet down your mind.  It's a practice that requires discipline but something you'll have to learn anyways because we are always being bombarded by stimulus, especially if you live in a big city.  It does take a lot of practice and time to really develop a strong technique.  I also know its tough to sit still when you're 18 so this might not appeal to you just yet.  If you're interested research medical meditation on the internet.

If you'd like to try something different I also like this guys approach.

He has a couple of tools aside from meditation, including hitting, yelling and jumping in the water... he's kinda goofy but I've seen many people use this, consciously or unconsciously, so I know it works.  Especially the jumping in the water part and of course learning martial arts teaches your mind to focus.

  2. unless you want to take medication. theres really nothing to do, but live with it,my friend and his mom has that. you would never know it. they control it with meds. and no the medication does'nt make you a zombie.if you would talk to a professional, i bet you would never regret it. my friend would lay in bed at night, and he said just one after another the thoughts would come. he was agravated all the time. because he was mentally exasted.think about getting help.it will ease your mind.and i'm sure the people around you who care.

  3. There is a medication for your condition.  You just need to consult with a psycho therapist.  Explain what's going on to someone and get to a doctor.

  4. I have the same issue. There have been times I couldn't sleep. I don't know how, but I forced myself to stop. When I'm going to sleep and I can't stop thinking I just tell myself "you're going to sleep" I don't allow my mind to think about anything else. I just keep thinking the word  "sleep."  When I'm doing homework I make sure I have the radio or tv on...especially when I'm reading a book. It allows me to focus on two things at once and my mind doesn't wander to anything else. In class I would draw or write while listening to the teacher. Or even go ahead in my work. It takes a while to get used to, but hey I just turned 18 so it's not to long.  Sometimes, I use my constant thinking to plan my future. Think of what you want to do...how you're going to do it....think of possible obstacles, how you'll get through them. It could actually help you in life. It has definitely helped me.

    Good Luck!

  5. You have to learn how to control that hamster on the wheel. Get a meditation CD. You need to learn to control what you allow in your mind. Maybe writing in a journal would help. Just write down what your thoughts are but do not go back and read it again. If you are angry when you are writing it down, then take the pieces of paper(s), tear them out of the book, twist them tightly making it look like a stick, go outside (you can do this in private cause if you care about what people think then this might be a problem), light it on fire, let it burn to ashes and float away in the wind. Also pay attention to what you are thinking and if it is an unwanted thought then tell it to go away. Keep telling it if you have to. Hope I have helped in some way. This is how I over came the hamster on the wheel syndrome.

  6. You sir are exhibiting signs of ADHD.  Believe me, medication will help you.  It has worked wonders for me.

    Go see a doctor.

  7. Well the first answer you got was about medications.  Medications will make this worse believe me.  I know what you are going through I've had the same problem so for awhile I turned to weed which that helps me personally but maybe not you,  Working out also helps a lot because it wears you out and somehow your mind can get a lot more focused afterwards,  Try working out every morning,  you mental health is directly related to your physical health
