I will need to invest some money to obtain my license. I am not sure i want to invest money if i cannot earn a good living. I am very outgoing. I love people and helping. I am very smart and I get bored fast. So I am tired of the boring hourly pay lifestyle that never allows you to get ahead in life. But I am also tired of taking chances and failing. Any advice on sales? or something good to invest in?

  1. A good place to start is American General.  I got my start there and moved on to owning my own agency and having 17 sub-agents.  American General will test you and tell you if you have the right personality for selling insurance.  You can work there long enough to learn the business and move on or move up into management.

  2. You need sales skills to succeed early on in insurance.  It is a very competitive market.  If you failed in sales before then insurance probably is not going to be good for you.

But it would not hurt to visit a few insurance recruiters and take their profile tests.  Be sure to answer honestly!  If you are smart you can easily figure out what the best answer for a salesperson is and manipulate the result to make it look like you are a wonderful fit for the career.  But you'd only be fooling yourself.  So answer the quiz honestly and asses your situation from there.

Oh, and ask the recruiter(s) lots of questions too.

  3. Before you do this, why not go see a reputable insurance company.  They can give you a sort of iq test that will help you decide if you have the right personality, etc.

The other thing is, insurance is strictly a numbers game.  So do you know a lot of people who might buy from you?

Another thing, what were you selling before?  Why did you not succeed?  It may/may not have been your fault.  Perhaps you were a good salesman, with a bad or overpriced product.

You have to analyse a past failure to learn from it.  Have you no friends or family to turn to for help with that?

There are library books on the topics of sales vs ins sales.  And they are free.

    In any case, good luck!
