I finished my english class with a 95 this year. I'm an excellent essay writer. on the sat, i have major trouble comprehending and paying attention to those long passages. i might have ADD but i was never tested for it because i have a 3.5 (A) GPA. when i don't show intrest in something, it's extremely hard for me to cope with it. i really don't have interest in reading those long boring passages literally about nothing. i scored a 450 on this section and i plan to bring it up a 100 pts. what should i do? i know i have to study but i just can't read these stupid passages they are so incredibly boring!!!

  1. just to shitload of practice tests and you'll get used to it.

  2. I have the same problem with reading! If something is boring, I don't really absorb the information. I guess, if you ever feel yourself slipping, stop yourself, take a deep breath, and continue. You could also take notes at the sides of the passage? Hope I helped.

  3. Practice, practice, practice.

    Turn off all distractions.

  4. on the SAT its a lot easier as most questions give you some sort of guideline where the answer is. skim the passage first and then look at the lines the question gives you and read those lines and answer that question. then repeat.

its a lot easier if you just search a section for one question rather than try to read the whole passage and rememeber everything.

my problem with read is thse stupid sentence completions. my vocabulary sucks so i suck at them. i think i got like 15/25 on that section but ended up with a 660.

  5. Yes, they are boring.

Have you tried working backwards?  Read the questions first, then go back to the passage to hunt for the answers.  If you have an idea of what to look for, it may be more interesting, instead of just reading aimlessly.

Or perhaps you can skim the passages.  Read the first and last sentences of each paragraph and try to figure out what it's all about.  Then go to the questions, and if you don't have any idea what the answers are, go back to the passage and look in more detail for them.

And of course, guess on all the questions you're unsure of.  Don't leave any answer blank.  General SAT strategy.

May the Lord Jesus Christ bless you.

  6. I found that reading the passage by paragraphs helps me to focus more and uses less time. By reading a paragraph and then finding the questions that coordinate with that paragraph and answering them, you are not simply reading all the way through which can lead to a wandering mind. Also, by answering like this, you have not forgotten the material in the first paragraphs by the time you are done.

Also, unlike the ACT, the SAT counts OFF for wrong answers. Therefore, a good strategy would be to answer the ones you know, guess on the ones you can narrow down, and skip the ones you have no earthly clue about.
