I have two Desktops and one is connected to a 2Wire wireless modem. I have just purchased a Linksys PC Adapter Card for the other in order to connect it to the internet without having to run wires all over the place. Will I need to purchase the router in order to be able to connect to the modem. The computers will be in two different rooms 8 to 10 feet from each other. Thanks for any input.

  1. Yes you will need a router. If you want a wireless network then you will have to buy a wireless router.

  2. yes

  3. No. The 2 wire modem will act as the router. You can use an ethernet cable to run to the 2 wire modem from the tower next to it then use the Linksys wireless card for the other rig. Use the wired tower to turn your wireless on in the 2 wire modem then turn your wireless rig on. It should see the modem then you can set it up with either your windows wireless software or the Linksys software that came with the card. I always prefer to use the software that comes with the card but, to each his own. I assume you're talking about the 2 wire 2700?

Just make sure you encrypt your wireless connection.
