  2. Hens begin laying at 18 ? 20 weeks of age and a healthy chicken will

lay about one egg a day.  A hen does not need a rooster to lay eggs

and eggs are produced in response to day light patterns.  The eggs we

buy in the store are not fertilized (they don?t hatch).  The size of

the egg is dependant on the age of the hen.  Older birds lay larger

    eggs."

    DID YOU KNOW???

There is no nutritional difference between a brown egg and a white egg.

Different breeds of birds lay a different colour egg.  For example,

brown hens lay brown eggs and white hens lay white eggs.

A hen lays one egg at a time.

It takes 26 hours for the hen to make an egg.

  3. They ovulate on a daily basis regardless of if they have been fertilised.

Women ovulate on a monthly basis too, regardless  of if they are fertilised.

  4. The eggs they lay will never become chickens because they're not fertilized.

  5. Chickens don't need continual male attention to lay eggs; eventually they'll need to see a rooster if they're going to continue to lay, but they should be good for several weeks to a few months.

  7. they lay eggs the same way that a human lady makes eggs inside of her. The difference with chickens is that they are fertilized by a roster out side of the chicken instead of inside like  human. the eggs are just waiting for a rooster to fertilize them, yet you have no rooster so they will just end up dying and not making a baby chicken

  8. Domestic chickens have been bred for egg laying, but, production of eggs without fertilization is not anything special.  Humans do it all the time.  Each month our ovaries release an egg whether or not there are any sperm around.

The difference is that birds actually produce a full amniotic egg, so it seems like a bigger deal to us.  While most bird species will produce occasional unfertilized eggs, years and years of selection for egg production has produced domestic chickens that provide us with food nearly daily.
