I don't know what to do because I don't know why she's doing it. I was walking downstairs w/ her and she let out a high pitched squeak. I was walking her to her cage and she did it again. She does it randomly all the time. I don't know what's wrong with my poor baby! I hope she's not in pain because that would suck. What's wrong with my baby girl?

  1. It could be that she is happy, hungry, in pain, angry, not happy, sick.

  2. I agree with everyone else. They are just happy to see or hear you. If you start to hear a low roar or if the chatter their teeth together then I would be worried. If they squeck and hop around its what they call popcorning. Its a good thing.

  3. i had a guinea pig that used to do that all the time. my moms a vet and she said nothing was wrong she was just excited and happy!!!  :) good luck!!!!!!!!

  4. I have heard of them squeaking when they are content. But it is always good to check with a Vet.

  5. I have 2 guinea pigs and they will squeak when I come into the room too. Its just their way of saying that they're excited to see you. I wouldn't worry about it.

  6. maybe she is happy.  She *could* be in pain lets not hope that though.

  7. Piggies squeek for a lot of reasons!  Mine squeek "hello" whenever I walk through the room, and they squeek when they want me to give them a cranberry treat.  But squeeking can also mean that they are scared or hurt.

For example, if your piggy squeeks when she pees, she may have a urinary track infection or a bladder infection.  Take her out of the cage and put her on a white towel for awhile, and see if you can get her to pee.  If she leaves a pinkish, brownish, or reddish stain on the towel (anything other than yellowish-white), then there is blood in her urine and you need to get her to a vet immediately, she probably needs antibiotics.

If she has bladder or kidney stones, she may squeek when she is held a certain way.  You need to see a vet for this.

If she has always done this, then it is probably just how she is!  But if it is a new behavior for her, I would be very concerned that there is a problem.  Also, you indicate that it sounds like an unhappy squeek.  "When in doubt, check it out"....take her to your vet.  If possible, separate her ahead of time from any other piggies.  The dr. will ask if she is eating OK, drinking OK, and what her pee color is.

Good luck!  I hope she is OK.

  8. She is talking to you.  Do they do it when you open the fridge?  It is a very loud sound.  If you are walking with her in your hands, she might feel a bit insecure.  Perhaps taking her in a carrier would be better, or holding her in a towel or blanket.  I had 4 piggies at one time and the racket they made, while it can be adorable, really frayed the nerves after a while.  It is nice to come home to a cheering squad though. Are you feeding them plenty of HAY?  They need hay.  Good luck

  9. lol they squeak because they feel like it.  mine squeaks whenever you pick her up, whenever you put her down, whenever a light goes on or off, whenever someone walks into the room, whenever she basically hears anyone making noise in the house, whenever she wants a treat, whenever you give her food, whenever she hears the refrigerator open and on and on and on shes probably fine lol

  10. she's pregnant!!!!! OMG:)
