1. 2m + 7 > 13

    2m > 6

    m> 3

    3m <-6

    m<-2

    Therefore -2<m<3

    For this next problem you will want to get one of the variables to cancel out since you can't work with 2 unknowns.

    (4x+3y = -1)2

    (-3x -2y = 3)3

    8x +6y = -2

    -9x -6y = 9

    -x = 7

    x = -7

    Plug this back into either of the equations given in the beginning.

    4(-7) +3y = -1

    -28 +3y = -1

    3y = 27

    y=9

  2. The first person was correct on the second one, but not on the first one. I also want to clarify the second one.

    On the first one he said

    2m + 7 > 13

    2m > 6

    m> 3

    3m <-6

    m<-2

    Therefore -2<m<3

    However, if m>3 and m<-2, then the answer is

    either m>3 or m<-2. The only thing we know for sure is that m is not between -2 or 3.

    On the second one, where he said

    8x +6y = -2

    -9x -6y = 9

    -x = 7

    x = -7

    To elaborate how he got to -7

    8x + 6y = -2

    6y = -2 - 8x

    -9x - 6y = 9

    -6y = 9 + 9x

    multiply both sides by -1

    6y = -9 - 9x

    so 6y is both -9 - 9x and -2 - 8x

    -9 -9x = -2 - 8x

    -9 -9x +9x= -2 -8x +9x

    -9 +2= -2 -8x +9x +2

    -7 = -1x

    -1(-7) = -1(-1x)

    7 = x
