  1. Yes! Hay is a must for horses! It provides them with the nutrition that they needs! Sam with grain. Try www.allabouthorses.com

  2. yeah

  3. Except in rare cases where the grass pasture they are kept on is enough (it must be a large pasture with very high quality grass), all horses will need hay (or some other type of forage) included in their diet. This wiki article has got some good info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equine_nutr...

As for websites: this site has got some really cool articles http://www.thehorse.com/ lots of horse health stuff

http://equisearch.com This site has got some good articles on just about everything :D

  4. i cant see how you can say you know tons about horses but you dont know the importiance of hay.........horses most importiantly need hay and grass, if too much grain is fed your horse could colic, get ulcers and just TOO many things to even being to name. grain should be fed at a minimum and have proper levels of zinc(or a zinc suppliment) as this vital nutrient is lacking in most diets.

    websites:

    www.equisearch.com

    www.ushja.org

    www.usef.org

    GOOGLE (lol)

  5. Hay is important, but a horse can survive without it.  Hay is made up of grasses and legumes.  One of the advantages of hay is that it remains in the intestines and is continuously digested, which is best for horses.  In cold weather, the fermentation of hay is an important source of body heat to keep the horse warm.  Some hay is complete nutrition, and some is less nutritive and the horse needs mineral supplementation...hay can be tested to determine this.

A horse on good grass pasture doesn't need to be fed hay, but again may need mineral supplements.  Some commercial feeds are complete, meaning they contain all nutrients the horse needs.  But it's still best to feed hay to most horses for the fiber and continuous digestion it provides.

I don't have any websites for you...sorry.  Well, there is one about grasses...I think it's called safergrass.com...I think.
