  1. There are toys of such that you can give to them to chew on that will help with that. I'm sure you can use the salt wheel with the rats as well.

  2. Rats will naturally wear down their teeth on hard foods.  I highly recommend you get them pelleted rat food ("Lab block") which is not only good for their teeth but it's a balanced diet.

  3. you can give the rats medium hard wood, or dried corn.

  4. you could go to petsmart or petco and buy toys or wood so they could chew on it

  5. You can give them quite a few things to keep their teeth short. Most rats will keep their teeth worn by gnawing on their lab blocks. You can use paper towel rolls, bones, wood sticks(from pet store), plastic houses(mine love to put "back doors" into their plastic igloo, etc.

  6. You can go into almost any pet store and find wood blocks & treats for them to chew to keep their teeth down. :)

  7. Rats also like salt, but they will chew on anything. Give them blocks of wood. The wood will file their teeth down and keep their teeth healthy. You can even but flavord wood for them. Hope this helped!

  8. I gave my rat hard things to chew on.  When that didn't work I took her to the vet where I worked and had her teeth trimmed.  Basically we would sedate her with isoflourine and trim them with sterilized nail clippers.  The iso worked because it was inhaled and it wore off really, really quickly.  This is not a normal procedure, but nothing else worked.

  9. You can buy chew things for rats and other rodents at any petstore make sure they always have somthing to chew or their teeth will get too big

  10. Those salt wheels are actually unnecessary for any animals. I really don't get why pet stores still sell salt and mineral wheels with the claim that small pets need them. If your small pet is getting a nutritionally complete diet, it doesn't need them.

Rats will wear their teeth down themselves through bruxing, but if you want to provide additional chews, that is fine too. Small animal wood chews are sold in many pet stores. I used to occasionally give my rats a Nylabone Edible in petite size. They are edible dog chews but they are fine to give occasionally to rats (too high in protein and other things to give too often.)
