I am 29 years old. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for four years. But nothing has happened yet. His sperm has been checked, I have had all the tests done, and my doctors say I am normal. Aside from the infertility, I also have a strong fishy odor after intercourse, and after my menstrual cycle. I have told my doctors about this and they tested me for STD's, I had a pelvic exam, and all results were normal. On top of all these problems, I also have to say that my so called "cramps" are horrible!! I have them none stop throughout the month, and during sexual intercourse I have excruciating pain if he goes in too deep. I do not have any itching or pain in or around my v****a, I have normal discharge, and normal menstrual cycles. I don't understand. Can you please help me?? Could it be because I have a cyst on my right ovary??

  1. It is most likely that this odour is not caused by any disease. However, you certainly should have a check for any infection. There are a couple of low grade infections (not STD) which can be present for a long time which could cause an odour - thrush is the commonest one, but there are several others.

The way to have this checked is to see your GP.. The doctor can send the appropriate swabs to the lab. If this turns anything up then the appropriate treatment should do the trick. If it doesn't then modern medicine doesn't have much to offer you I'm afraid. In this situation I would recommend you try a homeopathic treatment - you can be referred to see a homeopathic doctor by your own GP.

  2. Have you told your Dr about the pain during s*x? And the continual cramps??? You said you were checked for STD did they include checking for the HPV virus? I only recently heard about this when my daughter turned 11 and the Dr said there was a new shot that she should get.  I had never heard of it and I'm almost 40, I plan on having my GYN do an HPV test on me at my next pap. Some one else mentioned getting checked for Endometritis (sorry spelled wrong) that would probably be a good thing to get checked also. Best of luck to you.

  3. Have they checked for endometriosis.  The cramps and painful intercourse sound like that to me, as for the fishy smell, it is commonly trichomonas vaginitis, have they check you and your husband for it at different points in the month. If so and it still smells that way I would request antibiotics that treat trichomonas and if the smell goes away while taking them you have confirmation that's what it was. But if you go that route make sure you both take them as he could be reinfecting you but not serious enough to pick up on their tests.
