Sometimes I keep losing the wifi signal completely, as if the router gets turned off at night. Is there anyway for me to get my own modem installed, with my own router directly to the existing cable in my apt?

  1. Yes, just go to any computer store and buy your own wireless router and install it.  It will plug into your modem and you will have wireless.  A note of caution.  If you are using your neighbor, then it's an unprotected network.  When you install yours, go into the router settings and enable either wep, or wpa security.  Then you will have to do the same for your computer as well.  This will prevent anyone else from using your Internet service.  I mention this because a single computer using a peer to peer program, like limewire or kazaa, can bring an Internet connection to a slow pace.  If you need help securing it contact me and I'll help.  But the instructions are pretty cut and dry.

  2. You need to call Verizon and order your own FIOS.  You need to get your own ONT & router set - up.
