I have a couple years worth of video camera tapes and I really want to get them on cds before they get ruined. My camcorder comes with one of those USB wires that you would use to hook a regular camera to the computer to transfer your pictures. Can I do the same thing with this camera or do I need a special program?

  1. Include details like what camera model, what sort of tapes etc.

    1. If it has USB, try if "windows movie maker" software (which comes installed with windows XP and Vista) can import  the video.  Movie maker typically imports videos from video camera. However, you might want to download to the DV-AVI format for the best quality (and ofcourse, huge filesize). 1hr of video takes up about 12GB. You can then reduce the filesize using other softwares which come with DVD burners etc.

    2. If your camcorder has a firewire port, its the same procedure and you might be able to get the DV-AVI (highest quality) video easily. Same procedure as above.

  2. You will need a video capture card. These cards can be affordable at a local computer store.

They usually have composite and s-video inputs.

  3. wanna go through pc...u'll need video caputure card n it software to b installed in ur pc b4 u can make any transfer.

the easiest way will b standalone dvd recorder which act exactly like vcr.just play the tape n copy to dvd disc.
