  1. It really depends what you are wanting to show off about Sydney food.

If it is the seafood, just take them down to the fishmarkets, or perhaps to Doyles.

Newtown has some fine restaurants, and none finer for quality and service than Rosalina's Italian at the Broadway end of King St.  Prices are great..ask for the owner "Roberto"...he is a great charactor.

Tell him "I was told that your food will make me happy!"

It really will.  He grows his own produce and even makes his own wine.

    enjoy.

  2. Easy!  Use chowhound.com and choose the San Franciso board..

and PBS has a new show called "Check Please" check it out..

Lastly I use www.local.yahoo.com to find great places to dine....I love Yahoo! local.

  3. I agree with Acadian - Yahoo search is pretty good. http://au.local.yahoo.com/

Tetsuyas (if you can get in....boook really far ahead) is Sydney's best retaurant by far.  It is pricey though.

For a cheaper option try one of the revolving restaurants in Centrepoint Tower or The Summit Restaurant.

The Fish Markets are fun and have great food.

  4. The most impressive place I know that I've taken overseas visitors to is Wasavie in Paddington.  Outstanding japanese food with a Sydney flavour, seated round a communal table in an atmospheric restaurant.  As it's BYO you can afford to take a really great Australian wine with you. The prices are incredibly low for the standard and experience.
