  1. Vonage has a 500 minute plan for $15/month.

But, if you are locked into a contract, you may be out of luck until your contract expires.

This is one reason I only use VoIP services that allow BYOD (bring your own device) and pay-as-you-go (no contracts).

Unfortunately, these services require a little tech savvy to be able to configure one's own VoIP adapters (ATA).  But in the end the savings are substantial.

For example, I subscribe to InPhonex LiteLine for only $7.95/month.  Includes all the bells and whistles at no extra cost.  No extra fees for e911.  Unlimited incoming calls.  Outgoing calls cost only 2.5 cent/min anywere in USA/Canada and many parts of Europe and Asia.

I also use CallCentric.  A phone number is only $1.95/month.  Incoming calls cost 1.5 cent/min;  outgoing calls are only 1.98 cent/min anywhere in USA/Canada, much of Europe, and Asia.

I use my own Linksys PAP2T-NA user configurable (unlocked) ATA that has 2-Lines.  I configure Line-1 for InPhonex, and Line-2 for CallCentric..... two separate services on just one ATA device.

Many people may find the Linksys SPA-2102 easier to configure.  It is a Router and 2-Line ATA in one box.

In total, my phone calling bills only average about $12/month.
