I have little experience with turntables. However, have a passion for electronica and have dreamt of becoming a DJ for years! My sister's boyfriend in San Francisco uses them and back home my friends spun a lot of drum n bass, so messin around on theirs is about all the experience I've got! But I know I've got a touch. There is this ad on Craigslist that looks like this:

Selling a full DJ setup. 2 turntables and a mixer in an Odyssey DJ hard case. One table is MCS and the other is American DJ, the mixer is Newmark. Comes with extra cables, and a crate of records, many are battle records(full of beats and samples)"

This setup is $200 dollars and looks very nice. Since I am a beginner, would this be an okay setup for me? Or are these brands cheap in that NO ONE should use them... I really need some advice here. I don't have a lot of cash but could very well do $200, it's a start after all right? Anyways, an opinion would be great. Thanks!!

  1. All that is pretty normal DJ equipment.  You definitely would want to have the person demo all the equipment for you first.

You didn't mention anything in the ad about amps and speakers.  You will need amps and speakers if you plan to DJ for an audience.  The mixer and turntables will work to practice in your room with headphones though.
