I have willow tree the root getting to long and big, how I can cut the root?

Please let me know if I can cut the root without damage the tree,I ,ive on the Cental Coast ,California, zone 7

  2. Roots are twice as big as the tree I think it would barely know it's missing if you dug it up and cut it with a chain saw

  3. Willows seek water. Willows grow at a crazy rate of speed. Willows have huge roots close to the surface.

    The moral of this answer is, if you don't like the root, get rid of the tree. Cutting that once root is like cutting the head off a hydra. One cut makes two heads, two make four, etc.

    The straight one word answer to your question is yes, but heed what I say or you'll pay $$$$ for removing it later.
