I asked for the time off in February and am due to go in June. I was asked to resign on Monday and just wanted to know if i have any rights to have the time off. I have 5 1/2 weeks holiday entitlement so would need 1 1/2 weeks unpaid leave which they have said they cannot let me have. I just basically want to hear if anyone has done this sort of thing before etc.

Thanks

  1. If u request them, they can give u leave on loss of pay.

    From which country /city u r .

Depending on the state rules/act... u can proceed legally.

  2. Unless you signed a contract stating that you have so much time off, you have little or no recourse of action.  It doesn't surprise me one bit that they have reacted the way they have with you.  It happens to people all the time who work at call centers.  You will probably also be told that any family members will not be able to apply for a future job there either.  At least thats what a friend was told after he left from a local call center near me (Teletech).  Go and better your education.  If that's the way they want to be, fine.  Just make sure that if you do resign, do it the proper way and do nothing that can hurt your chances at future jobs (meaning you will need them as a reference later on).  Hope this helps.  Good Luck!!!

  3. do resigne.. and go to study .. its much important.. i dont knwo about the law but i think if its not written in your appointment letter then u are not eligable. but don't work for that company which don't give u off after serving 4 years..

  4. Buggers! I think it's very shortsighted of them not to support their employees efforts at personal and academic development. Buggers! Unfortunately I dont know where you live so don't know where in the world you are so not sure if your country/state has any rights to unpaid leave or not. But the buggers!! You do not have to resign on Monday - tell them you have changed your mind and resign at the very last minute giving them the least notice they require (a month yeah?) and take no holidays until then (cos you will get the holiday pay in lieu of the holidays accrued up until the date you leave). And what buggers!!!!

  5. Two things to note: One, you ARE entitled to your leave and the employers are bound in law to allow you to have your leave of absence.

Point two: You MUST contact a professional trade union and press you case forcefully. Even if there is no written contract between you and your employers, the law says that it is your FUNDAMENTAL right to have your demand for leave recognised. PLEASE aler your local MP and press your case.

In any case, choose to follow your education right away. Nothing should come between you and your future You are obviously a competent worker so they do not want to leave them. It is one of their vtricks in trade . See the Chief person in charge of human resources in your establishment and get his views in writing. {You perhaps do not know this: that you can sue the Chief person, individually and severally if that person doesc nothonour your request.

I wish you all the luck in this fight against injustice.

  6. That is ridiculous. If they want you gone, they have to fire you then they can pay you unemployment. That's what they're trying to avoid by having you resign. I would NEVER resign from a position because someone asked me to. It's YOUR decision to resign or not - not theirs. Why can't they let you have the extra 1.5 weeks off? Is there good reason? You already have 5.5 weeks of holiday saved up so if I were you I'd definitely take that no matter what. Even if they don't let you have the rest of the time off, take ALL of your holiday and see how they like it. It's not fair that they asked you to resign.

  7. That stinks.
