  1. LCD

If a plasma breaks it is impossible to fix.

Your new tv breaks oh no!

Buy another or pay a qtr of the price to fix it?

  2. Not to complicate matters, here is some facts about the difference between HD LCD and plasma

  3. LCD do well in a brightly lit environment, they run a little cooler and use a bit less electric.  Seem better for gaming although plasmas are coming out with game modes on them now to even that out.

Plasma is better for watching sports, action movies, anything that is fast action.  Do better in a more dimly lit room.  They run a little bit warmer and do take a bit more power.

LCDs have plastic screens, Plasmas have glass screens.  Regardless of which you get, do not clean it with window cleaner!  It will mark the screen.  Get the screen cleaner when you buy the set!

Depending on the manufacturer, both have similar life spans.  Panasonics are rated to last 20 years based on 7 hours a day, 365 days a year.

If something happens to either type of screen, you're looking at an expensive repair!  Probably better to just buy a new one.  Plasmas are not plagued by burn in any more.  When they first came out, yes but technology has improved that problem.

Panasonic plasmas have been a Consumer Report Best Buy for at least the last 3 years and hold a 40% share of the market sales.  The most popular overall TV in the US is Samsung but Panasonic is the most popular in the plasma category.
