I havea stove with a 4 prong 220 adapter can I switch it on the stove side for a 3 prong instead of plug?

I am trying to install a new/used stove and one is 3 prong one is 4 just want to know if I can switch parts on back of stove instead of wire in home

  1. ya but u need a big cable that splits into 2 different 110 breakers

If the stove has a 4 prong connector on it it has to be plugged into a 4 prong outlet.  A 3 prong connect has 2 hots and a ground.  This gives you 220 volts.  A 4 prong connector has the 2 hot wires, a ground, and a neutral.  The neutral allows for 110 volts as well as 220.  You can't safely or within code use the ground as the neutral.  The stove with the 4 prong connector needs 110 for some things on it, such as a clock, a light in the oven, etc.  

    You can have a 3 prong outlet installed in place of a 4 prong connect by not using the neutral but you can't install a 4 prong outlet in place of a 3 prong outlet unless there's a neutral wire available for connection.

  3. You should be able to. Just make sure the plug you buy is rated at 220v and the current for the stove. It's important that you get the "hots" right as well and not get them crossed with the neutral. But I think you know that
