Question:

I haven't cried for at least 20 years. Is that normal?

My wife (lovingly) says that I'm an emotional r****d. I haven't cried since I was at school, and I can't imagine ANY instance where I would loose control and start blubbing.

(note: my eyes did water when the dog jumped on my lap and his paw went right in my knackers, but that wasn't an emotional response)

Every other bloke I know says they broke down in tears when they were at a wedding or at their kids birth. Not me. Is that normal?

  1. So long as you are not penting up your emotions and do feel upset, happy, whatever else in the appropriate situation, then I wouldn't worry. If, however, there are times when you should feel very emotional and you feel nothing at all, then maybe you should seek some sort of help, but I doubt this is the case for the simple fact that you are worrying about it.

If it's any consolation, I wish I was more like you.  I cry in all situations - happy, sad, relieved.  The worst, though, is when someone makes me really angry, or if I need to argue a point - it kind of doesn't work when you're a blubbering wreck.  My eyes even water when I'm putting on voices when reading story books to my youngest daughter.  It's so embarrassing.

We would all like to be in that 'normal' middle bit, but let's face it, someone has to be at the extremes in order for there to be a normal middle bit.  You're at one extreme, and I'm at the other.

  2. If it isn't causing you distress then it's fine.  Not everybody needs to cry at things.  Just because you don't cry doesn't mean you don't feel.  If you felt nothing at these types of emotional events then, yes, that would be abnormal.  But as long as you feel emotion then you are perfectly normal.

  3. To be honest, I dont cry at things I should cry at..then again the other week I cried for no reason (first time in years)..the human mind is a strange place.

  4. of course its completely normal its not like you're an unloving cold hearted b*****d are u? as long as you love your wife and kids and show that you love them then there's absolutely nothing wrong with you

  5. Hahaha your avatar says it all CT looks like your on the verge of a good weep

    Subconscious or what lol

  6. I'm very similar to you buddy cant remeber last time I cryed though I dont think I can

  7. That is normal

  8. Most men are the same, it all depends on your testosterone levels, I play golf with a Guy who's eyes moist up at the drop of a hat!

  9. If you can still talk about your emotions and have some way of releasing your emotions, rather than bottling them up, then you are streets ahead of someone who crams them down with food or decides not to eat at all, a person who drinks or takes drugs, or a person who smokes a lot to try to avoid their emotions.

  10. I don't think that it's normal, and I have the same problem.  Years (six, maybe) and my eyes have watered once or twice because of wind disagreeing with my contact lenses, but not emotional.  So, since your eyes did water, your tear ducts are fine, and you either (like me) have pent up emotions and don't know how to release them, or you just don't cry.  Sorry that my answer didn't really help at all- ambiguity!  Basically, do you feel like you need to cry to "let things out"?  Because if you don't, you're probably normal.

  11. Each to their own, but it is in no way healthy not to cry.

You will probably die prematurely of a heart attack :(

  12. It will all come out someday....
